Designed for an early September celebration, Alexia and Dakota’s wedding embraced the feeling of a Missouri Sunset with a western flair. While the season leaned late summer / early fall, Alexia wanted to avoid the typical fall color palette and instead create something that felt warm, colorful, and uniquely her own.
The result was a floral design full of movement, texture, and glow inspired by sunset skies, open fields, and the soft romance of the Midwest.
Missouri Sunset Color Story
Rather than traditional autumn tones, this wedding leaned into a palette inspired by a Missouri sunset: burgundy, raspberry, mauve, peach, salmon, orange, cream, yellow, and touches of soft blue. The mix created the perfect balance of warmth and brightness, giving the florals a western-inspired feel without losing their romantic edge.
Bridal Bouquets and Wedding Party Florals
Alexia’s bridal bouquet was designed to make a statement with a cascading shape that added softness and movement. Raspberry amaranthus and seeded eucalyptus flowed downward in the front, creating a natural, romantic effect that felt both elevated and organic.
The bridesmaids’ bouquets were intentionally more petite, with fewer main blooms and no cascading elements. Instead of the cascade, upright raspberry astilbe was used to echo the texture and color of the bridal bouquet while giving the maids’ bouquets a cleaner, more streamlined look. The result was a cohesive wedding party look that still allowed Alexia’s bouquet to stand out beautifully.
The florals were designed to complement the beautiful backdrop of Backwoods Venue 222, where the aged barnwood created the perfect rustic setting for this Missouri Sunset-inspired celebration. The warm tones of the wood paired naturally with the floral palette, and Sorrentino Photography captured it all beautifully in the soft, glowing golden hour light.
Ceremony and Reception Details
The ceremony and reception florals added warmth and personality throughout the day, bringing color into the rustic venue space in a way that felt natural and elevated.
From the larger floral arrangements to the smaller accent pieces, every design element was created to support Alexia’s vision of a Missouri Sunset wedding with western charm. The mix of textures, from airy limonium and delphinium to lush roses and ranunculus, gave the entire event a rich, gathered feel.
In addition to the key statement pieces, Alexia also requested loose stems for her and her family to arrange in their own bud vases on the reception dinner tables! This was a thoughtful way to extend the floral design throughout the event while allowing for a more relaxed and personal touch. A small handful of stems in a narrow vase can go a long way and they don’t require any special expertise to style them!
